Understanding the Anatomy of Your Foot and Ankle

When this tissue becomes inflamed, you may have sharp heel pain in the morning or after rest. Muscles in your foot and lower leg work together to control movement, and weakness in these muscles can shift pressure to your tendons and joints. Nerves run throughout your foot and carry signals to your brain.

Nerve problems like neuropathy or neuromas may cause pain, numbness, or tingling.
